Auditioning for Musical Theatre

Auditions are an interesting beast to tackle!

While there is no better way than “just do it” in order to learn how to navigate them and the feelings associated with them, good preparation and an understanding of the process on the part of the auditionees can provide a better and more relaxed overall experience for all those in front and behind the audition table.

"The Singing Formulation"
                      For Singing Perfection!

Formula: a method, statement, or procedure for achieving

something, especially reconciling different aims or positions, and

causing them to coexist in harmony.

The Singing Formulation is a 7-points short presentation & workshop on the foundational elements of voice production, from body position to breath and vocalisation, and final interpretation. It offers a structured way of looking at all the building blocks of sound production through review of anatomy, exercises eliciting functions necessary for healthy singing and reminders of all the variables of singing due to the uniqueness of everyone of us.

A crash-course in voice production.

Stage Presence

Stage Presence is maximized by the coordination of three elements: mind, body and space, acquired through Imagery, Mechanics & Performance. We want to hear the story, see the story and feel the space created by that story. Let’s work on being clear in the mind (imagery), clear in the sound production (mechanics) and clear on the delivery (performance).

CCM Mic Technique

The microphone is an essential tool for the singer of contemporary styles; with experience, this added element becomes an intrinsic part of the physical and vocal experience.

Its use is NOT solely to provide more volume; used properly, it can bring more colours to the voice and dynamics to the performance, help with CCM stylings, is part of “the look” of the contemporary singer and allows for more authenticity and individuality.

Social Engagement & the Vagus; at the Heart of the Art
Boosting Confidence & Engagement Through Wellbeing

The mental health benefits of participating in the performing arts have always been recognized.

Singing and making art together is good for us,

but why exactly?

Thanks to the work of the likes of Dr. Stephen W. Porges and his Polyvagal Theory, we can now look into somatic explanations as to why making music feels so good and find ways to further contribute to this wellbeing through the concept of co-regulation, the understanding of “neuroception”, the use of trauma informed pedagogy and the creation of brave work and study spaces.

Canadian Musical Theatre Repertoire Bites

Anne of Green Gables? For sure, that's Canadian, eh!

But we have so much more than that!

Ever heard of the expression "Broadway North"? That's here, because musical theatre is also created here.

Repertoire exploration presentation for a quick overview of some well known (and less known!) Canadian musical theatre repertoire and composers.

Brand Yourself Into Your Own Studio!

Most young voice teachers can feel confident with the vocal training they have received and might wish to share their knowledge with stellar students eager to learn.

But the reality of opening a studio and becoming “CEO of our own little enterprise” can be daunting. Many teachers will turn to discussion groups or other teachers for help, wanting to know “what works” or “how it’s done”.

What if we were to question ourselves first before trying to figure out what everybody else does or want, and create our very own “brand” by asking one short question: "What can I offer that nobody else can?"
